    History

Nar Shaddaa is a focal point for a wide array of criminals, secret political emissaries, crime bosses and other questionable individuals. On the upper levels, the Smuggler’s Moon boasts myriad neon towers and ostentatious pleasure palaces capable of delivering endless forms of entertainment. However, behind this facade, take place black-market trades and illicit deals between crime bosses and political emissaries.

The lower levels of the planet are the exact opposite of the luxury present above them: the lack of regulation enables suspicious enterprises to perform dangerous experiments on innocent subjects and crime lords gather slaves from here to use them in industrial facilities. In Nar Shaddaa’s underground levels also exist high-security private prisons, where some of the galaxy’s most ruthless criminals are held captive in complete anonymity.

Initially, Nar Shaddaa was a refuge for the Evocii when they were forced to leave Hutta. The number of refugees greatly increased after the Jedi Civil War, and the Exchange crime organization used them to attract and apprehend any remaining Jedi. The Hutts were already pulling the strings on the Smuggler’s Moon during the Great War and greatly profited from it, as Nar Shaddaa’s neutral status facilitated trades with both the Galactic Republic and the Sith Empire. In the present, despite the autonomy of Nar Shaddaa, the Hutt Cartel faces a threatening competition from their main rivals, the Exchange, manifested as a series of constant conflicts in the underworld of the Smuggler’s Moon.
