• Gathering Skills

Gathering skills stand at the base of the economy in SWTOR.

With these skills, you and your crew can find and gather raw materials, access secured computer systems and discover valuable artifacts while travelling from one planet to another.

You can sell the found materials and information on the open market or use the discovered resources to craft useful items.

There are 4 skills within the Gathering Skills tree, as follows: Archaeology, Bioanalysis, Scavenging and Slicing.

    Archaeology Crew Skill

Description: Archaeology allows searching for imbued items, namely Color Crystals, Power Crystals and Artifact Fragments. These can be acquired by sending companions in Archaeology missions or by mining nodes directly. The gathered crystals are used by Artifice and Synthweaving crafting skills.

    Bioanalysis Crew Skill

Description: Bioanalysis is used for extracting biological materials, specifically Biochemical Samples and Biochemical Compounds. The resulted products are required by the Biochem crafting skill to produce Implants, Medpacs, Stims and Adrenals.

    Scavenging Crew Skill

Description: Scavenging is required to salvage usable parts and materials from old and damaged technology. Scavenging provides Scavenged Metals and Scavenged Compounds, all of these recources being used by Armormech, Armstech and Cybertech crafting skills.

    Slicing Crew Skill

Description: Slicing is the SWTOR definition for hacking. This skill allows one to access secure computer systems and lockboxes such as electronic safes, data stations, security mainframes and biometric footlockers and acquire important information, rare schematics and mission discovery objects . The data retrieved through Slicing actually consists of Augment, Ship and Speeder Schematics, Lockboxes, Mission Discoveries and Sliced Tech Parts. Sliced Tech Parts are used for crafting Augments by Armormech, Armstech and Synthweaving crafting skills.

I hope maybe down the road that our companions will be able to use their own crafting skills to some degree, maybe can won't be able get as high, but if they have a plus in a craft/mission/gathering skill we should be able to use that some how besides having the skill ourselves.

I think the only problem to what you said is the possible effect on the economy. They limited the skills to 3 so that players will be forced to also buy items and materials and the market will be stimulated. And about the skill bonuses....the ones they already have are moderate which is not necessarily a bad thing. If the companions had significant bonuses it's possible the farming and item production would become much higher than the market demands, rare items wouldn't be actually rare...and so on. It's not so easy to keep the economy in balance

Well I think companions need to love you and be proficient in that skill. I don't think you can assign any skill to them and they are successful

I have tried, but seen in videos, you can queue up tasks for craft skills as such archeology like give them hours of work but so far I have only been able to appoint one at a time per 3 mins per task. that sucks. how do you queue tasks for your crew do do mulitple tasks at once??? help ? I know there is a way

I've only tried crafting and it worked, will check if it's possible for gathering too when I'll log again. At least for crafting, if you have the materials on you, just press craft button again to add another item in queue.

The mats can also be in your personal bank or ship store for your companion to craft the item.

Wow, what a idiot. Can't believe he wanted to create MORE work for himself. If he was bored, like count said, he can dps a little also.
