GamePro dislikes SWTOR - Silly arguments inside

Usually, I don't take sides if someone loves or hates SWTOR, in the end it's all about personal tastes and whatnot. I won't consider myself a SWTOR "fanboy" either, although I love the game, even with its obvious flaws.

Sombody tipped me off today saying that the guys from GamePro slammed Star Wars: The Old Republic pretty hard and of course, I was curious to investigate. I'm not familiar with the site so I don't know exactly who are the people behind it and what's their gaming experience.

With that in mind here's the video:

I've watched the full thing, although I wanted to shut it down at 3:00. It's not that I don't respect other people's opinions and I don't expect everyone to like the game...BUT:

- How on earth can you say that one of the disaadvantages of the game are the cutscenes. Really? The cutscenes? The guy, named for user-friendly purposes with X, said that he was happy that WoW came with text-based questing so he can finish the quests faster. Ok X I understand, you want a fast paced grinding spider killing MMO..we get it. Our friend X also said that he's not quite interested in the storyline..again...really? Star Wars? "I don't want to passively watch the story play out, I want to be a part of it!" You want to farm droids until 50? Have you seen the dialogue options? He ends up the sentence with "..just tell me what to do"..we will X, we will...reconsider giving opinions for cars, you might sell a few.

- The guy #2 comes along and says character creation sucks, because they all look the same. We marked this guy with Y, for a later Wikipedia reference and other famous sites. So Y says that Bioware did a crap job with the characters. Say no more Y, I feel you, it's ok..I'll email Bioware right now and tell them to add some horns and tusks into the mix, to spice it up a bit eh?

- X pops again, spamming the words "straight outta the gates" and saying that the game took him back when playing WoW. Oh X, your cute little WoW comparison is kinda new, I LOVE IT! No, not really, sorry. Did I mention that X says that he wants to be a part of the story, not letting the story play out? And then he says the word Blizzard, which makes stick a fork into my eye. For security purposes, I propose we are shutting X down..agreed?

These are only some thoughts after watching the whole video. For those preparing to bash me WoW-style, I'm not a WoW hater...actually, I played WoW since US Beta, until 3 months ago. Not a hater..but a player kk?

I'm sure you guys may find this video funny, maybe some of you will agree with some thoughts presented there, but overall, I think this is a silly SILLY attempt to bash a product that's not even out. Yes, SWTOR has some flaws/bugs and it's missing some features, but if you want to start comparing this to WoW , let's compare it to WoW Beta..agreed? I'm thinkin' Mr X & Mr Y didn't play WoW Beta at all...actually, to think of it, I don't think they played Vanilla at all. So, drawing the good ol' thin line, I think we may have the worst arguments in the history of a game review. GamePro SWTOR Review - 1/10 Why 1? Because they bothered to upload the damn thing on YouTube.

I'll let you guys draw the conclusions, but GamePro should start being Pro and review a product based on its current development stage, its general content and gameplay (and that means endgame too X), and, of course, not comparing apples and oranges. With that in mind, for me, GamePro becomes GameSilly.

UPDATE: It seems that GameSilly was on a desperate streak, I found an article, dated 3 days ago, in which they said that the CEO of Activision thinks SWTOR will fail. Again, how desperate can you be? The article can be found here and their source is here. If you read the source, you'll see that there's no hint or info whatsoever that implies such a headline. The CEO only said that EA might face some profit "issues", mainly because they have to pay license rights/royalties to Lucas Arts. Yep GameSilly, we're glad now that you're out of business and we totally understand why. GG

Hahaha, this is really funny. I share the same thought with you Vexx.
I hope X, Y and the 2 ladies will stick to WoW and I wish them "happy Panda killing".

GamePro is kinda old school but got caught behind monetizing their product. Haven't had a chance to see the video. I'm at work and I'll see it at lunch. I wonder if they spent more than 10 hours in beta?

To be honest while listening to these so called pros I had a feeling of "fake" throughout the whole video. Besides their generic approach that doesn't even come close to a review made by professionals they just look like they don't really believe what they are saying. Than why are they saying it? Ooops...

It is actually up on their official website. I double checked that before I posted as I couldn't believe some of the stupid things they where saying.

A shame. I read those magazines when they were new on the market, and valued them. But this is just... well nvm, they're part of PCWorld soon. Still not my reference site for MMO's

Actually according to GamePro magazine and site being shuttered - Shacknews.com - Video Game News, Trailers, Game Videos, and Files they will dismiss the GamePro staff. So for them it was the "what have I got to loose" type of situation.

Oh, how a good magazine has fallen.

And for the record:

1) Slamming TOR for the interactive cut-scenes that are one of their major advertising points is rather idiotic.
2) Reviewing an MMO after 5 hours of play is much like reviewing a movie after having only watched the opening credits.
3) It really sounds like that first reviewer simply wants to do gather quests to 50, then start signing up for the random dungeon finder for his daily heroic. No thought desired.

Vexx did you get the remark about the Death Knight? The first death knights were so op, it was no challenge to get to max level within a short amount of time. I always considered them the lazy players way of getting to max level as I knew several who only had max DKs and no other class. This is how many people now level in wow, mindlessly and without thought, hopeful that others will do most the work for them so they can just sit back and be on autopilot.

This whole video reminds me of today's main stream media, lets slant the news all the way to left and we will tell you what you should think. It would seem like that all the reviews they used, did not care for story, just wanted to jump up to max level and strut around like where were god's gift to MMO gaming.

Its like I said in earlier posts, those the expect SWTOR to be this earth shattering game that changes ever thing and meets their every want or whim will be unhappy with game. That one guy said he didn't even read the wow quests just got then and ran out and did them. So he is one of the type I first mentioned.

I have seen a real good review of the game by a guy who stated that SWTOR was not for him, but he told of the many good points of the game and in the end, said that SWTOR was a game worth playing. If this was Blizzard that put this video out, I could cope with that. But for someone to put this out as a review, I would have to ask them, how much did Blizzard pay you, and if they didn't what is the axe you have to grind?
