• Game Update 1.3 Preview: Group Finder (LFG Tool)

In this article we will do a hands-on preview over the Group Finder (LFG Tool) function that is currently available on the PTS Game Update 1.3 - Allies server.

This tool was one of the most requested features by the SWTOR community and we will present it to you in full details.
The function's button is located on the minimap where you will also find access to panels such as the Warzone queue and World Map panel.

After you access this panel, a set of related options become available:

On the upper-left side, you will see the Role Selection Area where you can choose what role(s) you want to have in the group. On the right side of the panel, you have the options to check what categories of Flashpoints/Operations/Daily Areas/ are you willing to attend to. Hitting the right side button of the panel which is located right above the daily reward information will pop a new filter window that lets you select the specific location you want to get to.

In the additional options area, you have a button that will select all the options available and the "Match With In-progress Groups" option means that the tool can find you groups that have already started the flashpoint and lost a player on the way. If you don't want that, uncheck it.

The following rewards are available for specific categories:

    Category Reward
Story Mode Operations (8 players) 5 Black Hole Commendations
Hard Mode Flashpoints (Tier 2) 5 Black Hole Commendations
Hard Mode Flashpoints (Tier 1) 5 Black Hole Commendations
Flashpoints (Normal mode) 5 Daily Commendations

Important: The Tier 1 and Tier 2 hard mode flashpoints share the same reward. For example: if you finish Lost Island HM using the LFG tool, the reward that shows up in the Group Finder Panel will say "Daily reward already claimed" for both the Tier 1 and Tier 2 HM Flashpoints.

One more important thing is that: The Group Finder daily reward will only be available if you check ALL the Flashpoints/Operations from their respective category.

Now let's get to the fun part, joining the queue. While in the queue you can switch your Character's roles and after you do that, you will need to hit the "Update Roles" button.

After you joined the queue, and the group finder finds you a group that needs your character's role, it will pop a window that asks you if you are ready and shows the instance(FP/Ops/Daily) the names, classes and levels of the players you will be joining with.

When all the players from the group are ready, you will be prompted if you want to travel now or later.

Using the Travel Now function will teleport you to the specified location.

Inside the instance, if you have a player that is not fit to do that flashpoint or operation, perhaps because the lack of gear/skills or for other reasons that you and the other members agree upon, you can use the Vote-to-kick function.

For the player to get kicked it will need the votes of the other 3 players if you're in a Flashpoint. Currently, we do not know the number of votes that are needed to kick a player in an Operations Group.

If one player leaves the group while you are progressing through the flashpoint or operation, your group leader can requeue your group in the group finder to fill the open spot with another player.

If you queued for random flashpoints, upon finishing the flashpoint or operation, the daily reward window will pop and grant you the prize.

Great review. One question: can you queue as a group? I.e. If you have 2 dps and a tank can you join as a group to find a healer? Apologies if I missed this information inthe article. It's early...

Hello EjectPorkins, the answer to your question is YES, you can group and and queue to find a healer but this request has to be made by the party leader. Aswell, if you have all 4 party members you can group up and the leader can queue you for random flashpoints to get your daily rewards.

As long as it doesn't get abused by people this is a good feature.

Its like anything, it will be abused. Limits will be put in place. It will turn into the nightmare of a LFG system that WoW has.

The real issue with the Vote To Kick feature is that the group finder is per server, so a reputation (deserved or other) will accumulate pretty easily. Maybe it's a good thing though, maybe even keep people a little more cautious before exercising that option...then again who knows.

Being same server is the only good thing about it. It will stop some of the issue with auto lfg system.

if you create a reputation of sucking, then you earned the daily boot. if you earn the reputation of a solid player, you get sought after for groups. i'm all for booting a campaign geared troll in favor of a noob 50 that follows instructions

It's about time. I actually quit playing because it was a pain to have to sit in the fleet and LFG.

Something to note about the LFG system. You can only queue for flashpoint up to the point you are on with your class story. Once I hit level 15 I wasn't able to queue using the LFG system till I complete my class story for Coruscant. Once I finished the class story for Coruscant I was able to use the LFG system to queue for Hammer. At level 15 I was to high for Ess but not ready for Hammer.

THIS IS SUBJECT TO CHANGE SINCE IT IS ON THE PTS

I was obsessive about this tool for the last week - ran BT, Hammer, and Athiss about a dozen times each on my fresh Agent, and actually got an EV to pop once on my imported Soc healer. It's a great tool - though it does have it's limits. If you're an alt-oholic like I am it can really add up the travel miles as you go back to your current questing area on your current planet from the fleet. Bioware is looking into that, which is good, but it's a bit of a PITA on PTS now (but then, that's more a function of the bad traveling system than simply being dropped off at Fleet.

I will also add - even if BioWare doesn't add in functional macros, I hope they add in speech macros. I had to alt-tab and copy/paste my mumble server info into chat during that EV run, and it'd be nice to be able to have the ability to one-button /say "mumble server at whatever.service.com, port12345,password WhateverPW"
