Lightside points/ Darkside points for Smuggler?

My question is, how do you correctly play a smuggler without being "gray?" The same question could be asked of the Bounty Hunter. To me they are both characters governed by monetary gain while leaning more to one side perhaps but not required.

What are your thoughts on this?

This is kind of an old argument that has been discussed many times on these forums so you may not get a lot of replies.. try searching for the old threat for people opinions.

i think a smuggler and also a bounty hunter is not very part of being dark or light... it's all about credits!!!! you as smuggler or bounty hunter are the man in the middle and act on those who pays the most credits

I'm playing my smuggler a bit like Han. Yeah she wants the credits, but will do the right thing when it comes right down to it. So I'll likely end up being LS 2-3 by 50 I think.

Bounty Hunter however is harder based on my very limited experience with them last night, started one and got to 6... Already had about 200 LS and 250 DS points, simply because I did what I thought was the most practical thing to do in any given situation.

Thats the thing about this game...there is no right or wrong. My smuggler is pure lightside. Her being a smuggler is about freedom...she doesn't want to be beholden to a group....but she always wants to do what's right. My trooper however is a mean bastard. And my sith warrior is actually compassionate and forgiving.

the real question here is whether or not being grey is going to hurt you in any sense of abilities or items. From what I know the only affect alignment has is getting the light side/dark side venders items and some companion affection. I'm guessing these items are better than average items so sitting in a grey area is withholding these items from you. I do not know if there is some advantage of being grey. i agree that playing the character of a scoundrel would tend to keep you more grey then other characters so this is definitely a valid question.

my gut feeling is these Light side dark side items are probably not that great. PvP and other such items are prob much more important.

anyone with some solid info on this should post.

    thanks

I see a few items on the GTN that require light side 1 or dark side 1, and most of them are 'custom' items from what I see. I play a smuggler, and he is gray. I wanted to go all dark side, but hit a few light side and now it's just all messed up lol. But I'm not gonna worry about it to much, just answer the way I feel he would. He's done some pretty mean things, and I have heard that endgame some of those actions can come back to haunt you. If that's the case, that would be very cool.

There is no advantage that I can see in going to LS or DS V, or any other value really. 98% of the equipment in the game does not require an alignment. The few bits that do aren't the top end raid gear anyway.

There are plenty of relics that don't require an alignment either, they just might be a bit harder to find.

I find many items say " Forbidden to Light/Dark 1 or greater" ; grey = use both

As i level i am doing what i feel fits, but if i decide at endgame i realllly want that super dark decoder ring, i'll just farm up the points via flashpoint or heroics.
