    Question for healers

First of all this is my first time putting long term effort into an mmo. I had trial run with both galaxies and wow but just couldn't get into them. Im really loving this game but worried choosing a healer class is just to hard for someone new to mmos. So my question is would changing to a dps spec make it a little easier? Im currently stuck on a class quest that labeled lvl 29 but can't even get thru it being lvl 32

    hi

Yes it would be easier to go dps for your first time but I don't know about your server there is a shortage of healers so if you can possibly get better could be benefitting yourself along with your server and have you tried taking a tank companion with you on your class quest I know if your sith sorcerer you get a tank as your first companion I hope this helps and good luck

It's easy to get by being a DPS, however, a hybrid class (healer) can do a good amount of DPS AND get you easily into groups

Yeah Val is the only companion I use. My problem is when he tanks in this quest no matter how I cycle my heals I just can't keep up with the strong and especially elite mobs I run across. I try and keep the best armor I can find on him but maybe I just need to check the market for something better? I do enjoy playing as a healer but for the story it just seems harder than it should be.

I rolled a consular healer seer spec, currently lvl 29, and using Qyzen Fess. Haven't had too much of an issue with the story quests, though granted whenever I've done them, I've tended to be about 3+ lvls over the suggested.

It seems that straight up healers are hard to come by in groups seeing as how PUG's seem to always be calling for one over general chat. So I find it a good idea to stay with the healer spec.

    here's some advice

So when you are rolling a healer. Always stick with hem VAL. Make sure before he attacks you use whirlwind on someone so that way you major it a little easier on yourself. Also make sure you are popping barrier on hem every time it comes up. Another thong is make sure his AOE abilities are turned off. So as not to break your. Crowd control. If the guy breaks out of CC you can always electrocute him which gives you another 5 seconds. And its always easier to kill weaker mobs first. So if you have a choice always CC an elite before anything else.

Not sure if you may have done what I did when it came to my tanky companion (Fess) ... But I swapped out his offhand at some point to something that did not generate a shield. I went a few levels like this wondering why my lizard friend seemed squishy. Wasn't till I got a new offhand with shield that I realized what the issue was.

I can give you only one strong tip when fighting elite mobs in the story quests. ALWAYS use your intrerupt or your companion's, most of the time it breaks the most powerful ability of that mob, making the kill way more easier. Also, as Kaibajj said, always use your CC abilities..

    lvl 50 healing commando

I've actually found it MUCH easier to solo if I use a dps companion. I use Jorgan.

Stick with healing, you will learn to play your class by the time you reach level cap...

IMO, always lvl as DPS (time efficient) and switch between Khem Val (tank) and Talos (healer) companions depending on the situation.

    Thats what I did.

Another little known fact. ALLWAYS kill the silver elites first. The Gold one's hit hardish, but the silvers put out some horrific damage. To counter this they usually have very small health pools and die very easily, making them glass cannons. CC the elite, kill the silver, then the normals, then deal with the gold. If there's more than one silver and a gold, removing a silver with CC I find usually works a bit better.

The healing spec sorcerer is a very strong class and should be fairly easy to solo.
I am mid 30s and so far so good.

All the above tips are good just keep them in mind:

    - gear up your companion, at least blues close to your level, on all the slots (dont forget implants, ear slot etc...)

    For regular questing:
    - I use Andronikos, kills faster and not too ahrd to keep alive.

    For hard fights:
    - use Khem turn off his AOE abilities so you can CC (whirlwind)
    - Rotation:
1 / CC a mob (the strongest usually)
2/ Send Khem on another mob (silver strongs to die first, then elites)
3/ Heal companion Use shield when available, then the heal over time, which should make your regular heal cast faster.
4/ Once companion is high on health, assist him with the kill, use interupts to stop the strong abilities (exception some droids start casting a very damagin ability as soon as you engage and you want to use an interupt first thing in the fight)
5/ IMPORTANT: Be mindfull of mana (force) efficiency of your spell, some spells like Shock might work well on nromal mobs, but are too costly on strong ones as you dont get the full effect (stun) just do the maths... average damage / force cost gives you an efficiency ratio. Abilities with a low ratio should be avoided. Also keep the instant cast Damage over time active, as it keeps ticking on the mob while you do other things.
6/ When Khem gets hurt say to half life, switch back to him, shield, HoT, heals... again use the Hot to proc a faster heal cast.

It seems that doing that I can last a long time in battle, take any elite and kill open world champions one level below me (granted soloing champions seems to take foerever)

Tataa, is it the quest in the Temple on dormund kaas, or one of the ones leading up to that?

If its the dormund kaas one, keep the mob out of the revivication. I found that I ended up using our ground slam ability a lot in that fight to get the mob in question out of the revivication. That's the major thing I found on that fight. Outside of that, interrupt everything you can.

I did it as an Assassin AC. I haven't gotten there yet with my sorceror AC.

NOTE: I'm not mentioning the boss character by name in case other users on this forum haven't gotten there yet
