    killed by lag

    (Minor Spoiler)

This isn't a QQ, I'm ust trying to figure out if theres anything I can do on my end.

While its not as bad as it was a few weeks ago, I still get the occassional lag spikes that make the game kinda unplayable. This morning it really came at a bad time in game. Everything was fine, and has been so for a few days. I've become paranoid and will check every few minutes to see how my connection looks. Uisng a trooper I finally got to the Arms Factory on Balmorra to face the Sith Darth Minax, and ust when the fight started, BAM....super lag. Needless to say it killed me. So I rezzed, looked and saw that my connection status had increased to 1oo or so MS.....enough to try again....then in the middle of the fight, it shot to more than 5000, and DC'd. Restarted PC, logged back in, I was dead again. Gave it one more try because the lag had gone away. But upon entering the factory again (when you DC and die you no longer have the option to rez on the spot) it went up and down, but not as bad this time. I actually made it this time, so I finished up and went to my ship. I saw that the spikes were umping around a bit still but not to unplayable levels. I'm wondering if maybe location in game affects it? Is it something about the arms factory?

Is there anyone that doesn't get the sudden lag spike that seems to come out of nowhere? I'm trying to figure out if I can avoid it in any way. I even thought of getting a new video card, but since I'm pretty sure theres nothing on my end causing it I don't know if I should spend the money or not. Currently I ave an AMD Radeon 6800. Drivers are all up to date. Is there a better card to be used, or would it be a waste? Am I the only player having this problem still?

As I said, its not as bad as it used to be. IN fact most of the time theres no lag at all even at peak evening times. But when it happens its sudden and unexpected.

Same here. It was great for about a week and then suddenly last night I got super lag. It was hard just pointing my character the way I wanted to go let alone fighting.

Just had to close the game, because the lagg became intolerable.
Though it usually is for a very short period, I know I'll be able to get playing soon enough
    The planet?
There's nothing wrong with the planet. The planet is fine. The people are f****d

Same for me an hour or so ago, massive spikes, but then cleared up again. Odd bug too where half the sound was gone and the conversations weren't happening so had to restart.

When you DC do you get the 9000 error code? I've been having this issue for a couple weeks now. I know it's not my internet itself because I never get disconnected anyways. Could it be a port issue?

In some ways I think the game makes it happen ust when I'm going to have a boss fight.

Again, this evening things were going ok, and then suddenly super lag spikes. Its actually starting to piss me off a little. Mainly because I got killed when temporarily DC'd and when the game snapped back the entire mob I was fighting was on me, M1-4X was dead and I shortly followed. Crap. I should record this so they can pay me back in credits for the repairs I'll have to make for losing a fight I *should/ could* easily win.

But I made the thread hoping someone would have some advice on what to do to counter the spikes. Seems like we're all in the same boat. They need to get crackin' on solving the issue. Tomorrow''s superbowl sunday and I don't watch football, really. (the wife on the other hand is having a girls superbowl party so I'll be banished to my man cave. So I'll have nothing but snacks, brewski some Red Dwarf and MST3K DVDs and SWTOR. )

I know my reply's comming a bit late, but anyways...
I (playing republic) experiance the samme issue.
I wondered if this could be a hardware-problem, so I searched these forums for clues.
Shattered triggered me here was Thatcher the creator of this thread wrote that he's using a AMD 6800 graphic-card, just as I am.
    Could this be the reason?
Shattered videocard do the rest of you use?
    And furthermore...
It seems to me that these problems is increasing the further jo I go in levels, and as of that, moving from planet to planet...

    I found a fix!

I was having same 9000 error just recently after patch 1.1b tried to look at everything couldn't figure it out so sent a ticket in they asked for my dxdiag and logs they sent email back saying I need to go to my msconfig from the start menu, go into general tab choose selective startup, then disable (uncheck) load startup items, then click ok and reboot. After that the game has never crashed since witch is great because the was killing me so I hope this helps anyone that is having the same issues

I'm really sorry 'bout my last entry in this thread...
I'm danish and I used my cellphone to make that entry. My phone is set up for my native language (danish) and I have enabled autofill as well.
When reading my entry now, I see that I wasn't as awake as I thought I was.
    -I can't understand what I wrote... -SORRY!!!
I was simply trying to ask, if any of you guys is having the same issues, and are using the same kind of videocard as the creator of this thread and me?

I am running 2 6950's crossfired and also have lag spikes here and there. It seems to happen at boss fights. As a Jedi I was at the last fight with the Emperor and would get a lag spike in the middle of the fight and then die. I did it like 7 times and spent all my credits on repairs. I let it go for a day then tried again and got more lag but on the third try I was able to defeat the boss with no problem. To answer your question, I think a 6800 is fine. A more powerful card Isn't going to help much with lag.
