As others have said, many of the SWTOR players are adults (including me, since at age 20 I don't qualify as a teenager anymore). However, what you are seeing with regards to maturity is a sad truth of online video games: many players of all ages act in an immature fashion. That's due partly to what Wikipedia calls the Online Disinhibition Effect, which is basically the same thing as what the webcomic Penny Arcade refers to as "John Gabriel's Greater Internet Jerkwad Theory" (name censored for appropriateness).

And, so as not to derail the thread too horribly, what do you mean by an adult-looking UI, OP? Can you give us a picture of what you would and would not consider to be an adult-looking UI?

Fact of the matter is: these games take decent enough gaming systems, which typically cost a lot of money. Some, as this game does, cost a monthly fee.

When I was a Kid, I just don't see me convincing my parents to shell out the money for a gaming system + monthly subscription...

Now that I am an adult, I have the funds to burn on this "hobby".
