OK, just tried this at lunch. I crafted several barrels on my armormech, RE them, and got no augment slot items. What am I doing wrong? Or is it just bad luck? Or, is there a certain level the crafted item has to be before you RE it? I read you guys were RE'ing 'greens' so that's what I was crafting....but did not get a single component, only the usual mats it took to make the item. I was making low level, 3-4, barrels. Is that the problem?

no, you don't. they have to be synthweaving, armormech or armstech crafted gear (mods are not gear, sabers are from artifice, implants from biochem so these will not yield augment kit components when RE'd)
Mods will not yield augment kits. You will need to either craft weapons, implants, boots, etc...

Duuhhh....OK now I'm feeling really dumb I read that, but I was in a hurry at lunch and didn't even think about what I was trying, was just looking at the fastest thing my boys could craft and I had mats for lol. Totaly makes sense now, thanks Soul!

I have all three profesions, so looks like armormech is going to be the cheapest way to go to make these kits, and from what I read the kits are all the same no matter what profesion makes them.

Low level augments are found via slicing and a hit on a Schematic find. When you train, you start at level 15 mods, I think. All the lower schematics are VERY rare and VERY expensive. generally, look on the GTN for the mk-1 augments. They are inexpensive, usually.

Yeah, low level augs and kits are expensive. No one farms that stuff so it's going to be rare unless you have an alt to do it. Also augging < 50 is a waste IMO as the upgrade from one level to the next doesn't take the previous cost of the lower kit into account. You have to pay full price for the next level.

For example (and I don't know exact numbers for < MK-6 stuff):

    Installing a MK-5 costs 25k
    Installing a MK-6 costs 30k
    Upgrading MK-5 to a MK-6 costs 30k not 5k as I think it should.

Therefore, augging before 50 just costs way too much because you out gear it in a few hours game time. At least at 50, the benefit lasts a lot longer so the cost is more inline with the benefit. So, I usually advise people to ignore augments until 50.

i usually do a mk-3 aug install on my toons. the augments provide a good enough boost at that level to make a difference and the kits are relatively cheap (as are the mats so i make them myself) then i upgrade to the mk-6 later.
