Titles are not fluff. They are only given out for completing certain requirements. In SWTOR you earn a title. Just as you earned your rank in WoW for PvP. If you accomplished what was needed to be a Sergeant in the Horde for PvP, you earned it. You still have it today even though that title has long been "retired." Nobody can buy or earn it any longer.

There are things you can buy in LOTRO that will help you move ahead quickly. XP boosts and the such. The cool thing is that you can get these even if you are a subscriber without paying money. Or, you can get the very same things as a free player without spending a dime. There are a variety of ways of getting the exact same things regardless of how you play. All of which can cost you money, or not.

Many of the sub only to F2P designed this way are extremely successful. Clearly, mouse, despite your ranting, we all are aware that you never experienced a F2P game Like LOTRO or DDO. That F2P shit that runneth over (to the shores of the USA) like Maple Story and all that other anime style crap aren't what I would call a game worth playing or comparing anything to.

Im sorry but titles are purely cosmetic and aesthetic to a character. They dont DO anything. They are no different to a pet, or dyes, or even vanity items like the 'sparkler'. And most of those can be ''earned'' from doing very specific things. Whether you earned said title is irrelevant.

If they dont kill bosses, they are fair game for purchase. Not that i would purchase something as useless as a title. (unless it was the title Dark ROFL!)

Now dont get me wrong, im not condoning the idea of purchasing titles by any means. Hell, im against the whole concept of F2P altogether. Ive already been badly burned by them in the past where things you should be able to obtain by in game methods, only being obtainable with real money. Want that mount that goes 120%? 10 bucks thanks. Want those extra character slots? 20 bucks thanks. Want the group summon? 5 bucks thanks.

I couldn't disagree more. Titles are a recognition of achievement, and allow the recipient to demonstrate that achievement to others. If such titles could simply be purchased, it would defeat the whole point of having them.

You keep making allusions to your tragic experiences with MMOs which have gone F2P, citing them as justification for your antithesis toward the whole model, but have still to give specific examples of these games and how they let you down. That does not help your argument.

I agree. Personally, I have only played 2 F2P MMO's. EVE Online and LOTRO. Frankly, I don't see where he is getting these ideas. They certainly don't apply to those 2 games. And, for those not familiar with EVE, You can play completely FREE, month-to-month, with no restrictions whatsoever. I also had to give it up after a couple/few years because it truly is the most addictive MMO out there and I went to work way too many time without any sleep at all. Even missed work occasionally. If you haven't tried it, do so. Sandbox, BABY! It is so cool to play with everyone all over the entire world, literally.

*sigh* you can buy game time (PLEX - Pilot's License EXtension) with ISK (the name of cash in the game). You do not need to use real cash to play. all you have to do is buy 1 PLEX and use it for game time. There are so many ways to make ISK and PLEX aren't that expensive.

I played for years and only paid for about 1/2 my time to play. some people never pay but are quite active in making ISK. So, yes, EVE IS F2P if you so choose. It just isn't your typical model that all these money-grubbing MMO's use.

As someone who loves to do a bit of everything subscription games are still best for me. There are a lot of F2P games out there that cater to a specific group of very focused individuals and that's great for them. I like a game where I can do something for a while, but when I want a new challenge or just new scenery I can jump over and do something else.

There's a huge push among the more focused crowd of gamers to make every new MMO F2P, but I'm still hoping there's enough players like me that prefer a broad experience to keep a few subscription games around. I'd pay a fortune if I had to pay every time I switched gears for a while.

Eve is not f2p, those plex extensions you were buying with isk were bought with real money by another player. Eve just tries to cut out the farmers by allowing the wealthy to legally buy ingame currency. For every month you played eve someone spent $15.

Having said that eve is awesome, I played for nearly 7 years and it is a blast if they had delivered on walking in stations I might still be playing, however that little room you get all to yourself is crap, so swtor gets my $15 from preorder until I get bored.

See, schis, based on your flawed logic, every f2p is not. Somebody is bankrolling the unpaying player by paying a sub, buying items, buying toon slots, etc. These purchase allow players to play for no cash outlay. Just like EVE. Regardless of the mechanics behind it, I can play for free. Thus it is free to play.

Well... let's see how they do it. Free | Star Wars: The Old Republic

Right now it looks like they're marketing content. I guess I'll have to see how much new warzones, flashpoints, etc... cost before I throw a fit, but I may not be able to afford jumping around and doing a bit of everything the way I do now.

At least it doesn't sound like a pay to win model just yet.

Edit: Actually, it sounds like you can still subscribe and get everything. If that's the case I can only either save money or break even with this. I'm intrigued.
