    Lightside/Darkside Challenges

When I was going through my Sith Inquisitor story line there were two times that when I was faced with a lightside/darkside choice that went totally against my personality. Being that I was playing the character as a pure "darkside" character I took the "darkside" choice, but I found myself going, "I don't want to take that choice"

So my question is this: Was there ever a time in the class storyline where you found yourself challenged by the lightside/darkside choices that were offered and did it just make you cringe when you took it? /

If this was a true "create your own adventure" play it would matter. That said, I always take the darkside it makes sense. I have seen a few care bear choices that were viable. In the end always more fun to see how many affection points you can loose.

On my republic character I choose light side for everything. But now just doing fp's and raids I sort of find my self wanting to turn him completely evil

I didn't worry too much about the points, but there were a few times when I picked a more "neutral" choice just because the darkside one sounded good but I knew it was going to be sarcastic or mean. Also, opposite on my mean characters. Sometimes the lightside choice sounds like it's going to lead to torture or something... but it never does.

I usually wind up eating a lightside choice every now and. Then with my sith, however the dark option was also shortsighted and. Stupid. Apparently some of the folks setting dialog or plot points missed dark helmet's speech.

My consular has been able to stay consistently light with only a little prissiness. My warrior though is collecting quite a few dark points over a disagreement with lucas on the perils of sex.

On a side note, wtf lucas, jedi can't getit on? Because horrendous emotional frustration and great physical power go soooo well together... moron.

I have not seen that movie in years. If you could, can you tell me what DH said? I'm sure it'll be hilariously fitting.

Mine too. Hey I think Kira's kinda cute....even though admitting that about a collection of pixels is a little bit creepy.

Because while Lucas gave us the framework for an interesting universe, he filled some of it with dumbass ideas. I deal with it like I do with the dumbass ideas in Star Trek (love trek, but think it has stupid and unrealistic parts too, even for sci fi) I just pretend they never said/did that.

I'm guessing it was the "evil will always triumph over good because good is dumb" line.

I'd say it's a testament to how well the character is realised and portrayed. Sounds less creepy that way.

In my opinion the best aspects of the Star Wars universe are among those into which Lucas had the least input. The quality of the dialogue in the prequel trilogy (more to the point, the lack thereof) is a good indication of the effects of his influence.

I think that came with his idealistic streak though too. Like how he's dropping Star Wars completely to make more independent films because he feels it is a higher calling.

He created a universe where people could relate to characters and situations even though there were warrior monks with super powers as a central theme. That's a great contribution to the entertainment industry.

Then he went back and tried to make it less gritty (Han shot second!) and decided he needed to make Darth Vader a more tragic character with a love story and a positive motive. I'm almost certain it was all because he had political and philosophical axes to grind. Especially after his independent film announcement.

Some of the EU authors have similar issues from time to time. You can tell when someone is forcing situations and characters for the sake of making a point, and it just snaps you out of the universe they're trying to create.

Yesterday I had this dilemma with my sith warrior. I'm trying to play him as evil, but not "kick puppies, indiscriminate killer" evil.

    SPOILER ALERT

The problem was with a mission where you have a choice to basically bomb a transport full of civilians. The other choice is to say no, and not get the mission at all. This will earn you lightside points, but your character will say something like "thats a stupid and wasteful thing to do and it really won't help us beat the republic". It makes sense, but I think it should just be nuetral. Also if you want to be straight evil and do it you'll get a boatload of negative points with Vette and if you're a BH, Mako. I'm waiting to do this with my sorc because I'm betting Khem will probably fall in love with you if you say yes to it.

My warrior just got another 50 lightside points because I didn't betray the empire to please a crimelord. Being lawful evil he just couldn't do it any other way.

I think they could have saved themselves a lot of trouble by being mindful of the lawful/chaotic scale as well as the good and evil one. My wife's character has no problem being evil because she's chaotic, but being lawful evil is harder because there are a lot of times where my warrior (who would willingly kill puppies if it would help him rise to power in the empire) is considered "good" just because he's calculated evil.

With the 3 option system they just need to have a two part morality choice system. The first choice could be Chaotic Good, Chaotic Evil, or Lawful with the next choice for Lawful being the Good and Evil versions of it.

One thing I've done if I had to swallow a choice against my character's morality, is do a quick run of the first Flashpoint for my side. Can solo it pretty easily, and it's a good number of dark or light points to balance out whatever choice I had to make on a quest.

I generally don't worry about it. The rewards are mostly cosmetic anyway. However, I got the speeder on my sage because I thought it fit him doing just what you suggest. It went pretty quick, but it's the first time I've felt like I was grinding something.

I ran into this from the 'get go' with my rep smuggler. I was taking all the smart alec responses because I wanted him to be like Han Solo....funny and well, smart aleckly ( is that a word? ) So now that I have done that, I am in the 'gray' area, and totaly screwed. Can't buy from the dark vendor or the light vendor. Yes I know I can turn it around with diplomacy, but that takes a lot of effort. I didn't think it mattered a whole lot....until I tried to buy something.
