    Help a laptop Noob

I'll try and check it out when I get home later on, I've been blocked from this site at work and trying to view stuff on a smaller screen of my iPhone is difficult.

A ssd is nice but by no means required, I do think intel core I5 or i7 is a better proc then amd's offerings though.

Sorry been gone, brad...I lost my job last month and it takes more time and effort to jump through all the teeny hoops than actually working. anyway...

Still, people keep telling you to buy stuff that is way out of your budget. an i5 or i7 will cost you considerably more than an amd a6 or a8 or a10.

But If you stick with your original choice of the 4 core a8 (? by msi, yes?) the nice thing about that machine is this: Intel can't do this cuz they suck, but because of the way the A-series chips have the integrated GPU on the chip (which makes them fast and efficient by themselves), the addition of the radeon (? was it 7250m? ) discreet, you can run them in Crossfire mode! The discreet card is above average, but when paired with the APU 4400(?) it will perform quite nicely. Then all you really needed to do is spend the extra 20 pouns to get that model with the 8 gig ram instaed of 6. Then you would be sitting alright. Ferget that ENVY. You get less machine for more money, in my book. I say go with that one earlier.

Also, SSD's are really designed to be boot drives and application launch platforms. Due to their architecture they read really really fast and juts realy fast in the write department. Also, the more you write to an SSD, because of the memory used in construction, the quicker the memory deteriorates, thus, the time between failure goes from 2 million hours (like mine lol) down to shit. Use the HDD for storage (things that get read from often).

what i meant was that you cn usually spend 20 and get the 2 gig (the laptop comes with a 4 and a 2 gig stick) ugraded to a 4 gig, thereby giving you the 8 gig.

As far as the processors go, the acer's (A6-3420m) is actually faster (despite a lower number) than the HP's (A6-4455m). The clue, here is that you can get the HP for half the price of the Acer. That's just how much slower the processor is LOL 1/2 the capability. I can tell ya, that a 300 laptop will not run SWTOR. At least not with any satisfaction, it won't. Stick to your original budget and go for the acer. Do some shopping. Even look into a refurbished (they usually are a lot cheaper but actually work better than the one off the shelf), or used form a reputable seller.

He said his budget was around 550-600 max, what i posted was listed at 599.00?

It has a i5 chip with a nvidia 630m gpu with 2gb of ded memory which is nice if you ever plan on using a external monitor. Not saying what you listed up was bad but i think 6 bills for those specs is a pretty good deal. Im not up to snuff on amd's newest tech but they have been dominated for years now by intel so i have not paid much attention to amd so you could be right.

For what it's worth though one of the few negative reviews on that laptop i posted was meant for the amd version with a guy bitching about the catalist software and video drivers being buggy. Always read the reviews brad, no one knows better then the people who own and use that exact model that your looking to buy. Looks like one of the drawbacks to the one i posted was battery life, though most gaming laptops sacrifice battery power 9 times out of ten.
