    What was your first RPG

I was wondering again, what was your first RPG.
I am a relatively newcomer to the gaming world (if you don't count Pong). At 54 years of age my first was and is my favorite, Dragon Age. Another 54 year old buddy at work introduced me to the game. At 56 years of age SWTOR is my favorite & first MMORPG. I love the stories and relationships with the characters. Mass Effect 1 & 2 were great too..

Go back to Dungeons and Dragons back in 76. That was my first pen and paper rpg. Zork was my first MUD on a computer. MUD = multi user dungeon. It was text based. Wizardry was the earliest dungeon crawl computer rpg I played. I did like the Mass Effect series and Dragon Age as well.

I did some of the type interface stories before I owned my own computer but the first rpg I bought and played repeatedly was the Quest for Glory series by Sierra Online

god I loved some of that 8 bit music coming out of my tandy 1000's integrated speakers

I was also at that "right" age to play leisure suit larry.

D&D was my first RPG. Computer game wise, it had to be Ultima VI - The False Prophet or Final Fantasy IV on NES. They came out within a year or so of each other and it has been 20+ years (god I feel old now). Both were amazing at the time. Sucks that the FF series went all weird with guns with blades and card games basically being required.

A lot of the D&D licensed games were good - Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, the Dark Sun one. Although not what one would consider true RPG's, the wing commander series including the privateer spin offs were awesome. They all had good stories where your choices / performance affected the outcome. It's a shame EA drove Origin Systems into the ground after they bought them - it was a truly amazing studio.

The first RPG I bought was actually the first video game I ever bought for anything other than PC. Final Fantasy 8 with a used playstation. My friend had actually recommended I try 7, but by the time I'd gotten around to looking for it 8 was out so I got that.

Later I went back and played 7 and realized that RPGs were more timeless than most genres. Not to say I didn't enjoy 8, but at the time I assumed it would be the next iteration on the series. RPGs can vary so dramatically that they're two completely different games within the same genre even if the base systems are similar.

AD&D in '78 at the ripe old age of 11...I still have the character sheet for my Magic User, video game wise would have to be 9 Princes in Amber for the Apple IIe.

Kings Quest was my first but hero's Quest aka QFG remains my favourite computer game series to this day.

On a related note....The space quest guys (two guys from andromeda) have a kickstarter rpg in the works.

Same. All my friends swore that 7 was the best in the series, but I definitely spent the most time on 10. Got everyone's best weapon. Collected a lot of monsters for the arena. I just couldn't get enough of the leveling system, item system, etc... I also loved all the puzzles.

7 was definitely the best in the series and one of the best games in rpg history imo

You are all so young...makes me feel as if I were your daddy. Who's yer daddy? LOL

Anyway...I started D&D (there was no AD&D at that point) in '77 and a bit after that I started to play Traveller. Computer-wise, it was The Bard's Tale that I count. All the text-based stuff really didn't interest me. The Bard's Tale was awesome.
