The last time I changed my name I accidently sent 100K creds to my old name alt by mistake. Darn, I wish we could have the same first name with maybe a legacy symbol beside it or something.

They've been able to offer transfers since they offered them for free (aside from, perhaps, the UI of server selection). My guess is they know customers would be very upset when they deploy the "mega server" concept and all servers of the same type are the same "server" anyway (and after they just spent money to change!)

Can you imagine if they charged people to switch to other servers and then < 3 months later merged all servers of the same type into one massive server anyway? If you thought the general forums were bad before...

If that is actually the reason I'm glad to see them skipping out on the short term money and approval for the long term health of the game.

Well currently the server I play on has been dying since F2P was announced. Less than 100 in fleet during prime time. So server mergers are a must if they want to keep any kind of player base besides the Kool-Aid drinkers.

My question is with super server what will happen to PVP servers, RP servers, PVE servers and PVP-RP servers? Will they merge them all into one? I can't imagine that going over with the current players. Plus with server merges will come MOAR bad press which that's all this game needs at the moment. Maybe this is really a giant lab experiment on how NOT to run an MMO.

What server are you on? The Shadowlands has easily 300 per faction just sitting on the fleet most nights so I guess I lucked out with the transfers.

The idea of the mega servers is to consolidate ALL PvE server players into one server, all PvP players into one server, etc... Effectively, instead of picking from a list of servers in the future you'd be picking a server type and that would determine who you're playing with (I.E. everyone who picked the same type).

There will be shared services like mail, chat, guilds, etc... for all players of a type, but since they can run multiple instances of any zone (and those instances don't need to be running on the same hardware) the idea is they can support the whole community all playing together regardless of how large it gets (since they can always spill zone instances over onto new hardware as needed).

I could certainly see it becoming a new standard in the genre if they can make it work right. No more "is cross-server the way to go" discussions, no more paid transfers because you made a new friend and found out they play on a different server, etc... It would be pretty awesome.

I don't doubt there's going to be a lot more complaining than there already is, however. Especially from those that don't give a care about the "MMO" part of the game.

Personally I love most of the major design decisions they've made and are making (modifiable gear, the concept of the legacy system, the way tanking works in PvP, crafting no longer being a tedium in harvesting, mega servers, etc...) A game "going forward" with these designs could be absolutely awesome. Unfortunately, that stops nobody from complaining about the (comparatively) minor inconveniences of the short-term and ultimately failing to support development of these ideas.

I still do not see this information on the official site. Here is a quote from the official site:
Following the success of the Free Character Transfer Program, and after closely monitoring server populations, we have now taken the next step in our on-going server population balancing process. We have upgraded destination servers in order to support a significantly higher number of players. As of tomorrow, all characters on origin servers will be automatically moved onto the upgraded high population destination servers. By centralizing our player populations on these higher population destination servers, we feel that we can offer our players the best possible Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ experience.

Indeed, the server matrix transfer was where I got my info. CR and shadowlands are the only two I have characters on so they are the only ones I looked at.

On a side note, I have a guild on shadowlands if anyone is in need after transfers. Look for Sutek, Xee'ri or Murzon if you need an invite. Imp guild with a voice server coming this weekend.

And if my Intel is wrong I blame bioware for posting bad info before the maintenance.

why spend money on books? we have libraries that carry books. It's their "thing" Mine even does e-books. I have A spell for Chameleon on my tablet now.

Also, you can see the server lists. The system will let you beyond the launcher and you can see what has happened. I am sure I will have a name change or three, but that's okay. I'll get over it. I just hope I don't have to change my main : Lucious. Many people have told me they really liked that name. I've even been invited to guilds SOLELY on my name cuz the GM thought it was cool and wanted "one of me" in his list LOL. Not only that, ALL my toons are named after famous people named Ballsdeep IRL and there aren't that many people with the surname Ballsdeep to choose from that are famous.

(of course I'm kidding, my Legacy is in my Siggy. )

Yeah you coulda got those books (most are available in audio and kindle or eBook formats) from the library for the cost of going to get a card. and, for me, I can do it from my home. I used to do audio books, but I got to the point where I was interrupted at work to often so it made it annoying to have to hunt the point i had begun missing down. Some of the books only allow "rewind" to beginning of chapter, i found. Instead, I started to listen to comedy albums. They are great and it is okay if I miss something. I'm a huge Lewis Black fan.

I have a 45-90 minute commute, so audiobooks are my lifesaver.

I've tried the library for my audiobooks, but they are a PIA. IMHO...
