    Sniper

Well, after quite a few conversations with friends I have decided to go with a Sniper. They seem like they are going to be one of (if not the most) underplayed of the ACs. I enjoy the idea of being max ranged character. With the cover system the fact that I'm wearing lighter armor shouldn't be too much of a burden. I guess i'm curious if anyone has had experience with the class and what others thoughts are on them.

I don't have much experience with Sniper but i would like to choose this class when game goes live and isn't the underplayed of ACs,i think just SI is the most played and the rest are pretty well balanced.

I played Sniper at level..22 I guess...a friend's character. Was pretty powerful at range, but seemed weak at close range. But then again, I'm sure I didn't play the AC at it's full potential.

Ioan, from a lot of the polls and forums I've read it's definetly going to be underplayed. Between the Sith Warrior, Bounty Hunter, and SI there are a lot of good choices for the empire. The imperial agent (and sniper in particular) doesn't have anything that stands out about the class in comparison to the three other choices.

Vexx, that's definetly how it should be. My only concern which i'm still trying to look into is the ability for the sniper to create distance between himself and someone beating on him.

yep, well..let's just say CC's aren't his strong points atm but I'm sure that'll be fixed, otherwise it will be a big balance issue. I also tried some kiting in PVP, but with little success..almost everybody could reach me, immobilize me..etc. Again, don't take this as a reference, like I said, I played the class 3-5 hours

Yah the sniper seems like a class that's going to need a babysitter in PvP. How is the range? Is it signifigantly longer in any way?

Well i was honoured to be able to play the last 2 weekends, and i rolled 3 charactors in that time. 1st JC got her to level 12 before servers went down then made a SI to which i throughly enjoyed and got her to level 21 before end. This weekend i made a IA as the 2 classes i want to play when SWTOR goes live is the SI and the IA. Not only did i find the storyline for the IA really intense i also found the IA really enjoyable to play and is quite capable of close combat hence i am talking PvE. Now i went the operative way for the healing side. Now i did want to play the sniper but as in test i wanted to see how far i could get without relying on others etc so i took the healing side. Now this was also a very good healer. When i got to do the BT flashpoint i was level 12 we had 1 level 9 BH and a level 10 maur / BH and a 11 SI sorceror. However as soon as we started the SI though she (it) could tank and soon died, this left me healing the others to which we managed to get by at this stage. Then the SI left group and left us inside the BT instance. i then told one of the BH to call Miko as she was the healer. So we did this i actec as the second healer when needed and we completed the instance with no deaths. I was thanked by the others for supporting them in the healing and we all had a good run. In the solo aspect of the storyline the opperative also worked well in CC to with the little gadgets he has. and can also solo gold bosses higher than his level to. Now although i did enjoy the opperative, i still want to roll a sniper. now my concern is how good will i be in my storyline without the healing?. Also i will say that i will def will be making a IA aside of my SI and infact i am thinking of making 2 IA's so i can have both opperative and sniper. I did not try any PvP at this time as i wanted to get along the storyline as much as poss.

I played a Sniper this weekend and enjoyed it so much I'm rolling one as my first character now as opposed to a Juggernaut! (Sorry! )

They have a range of 30-35m, when you choose the sniper as your AC some of your IA abilities also get boosted to 35m... Overload Shot and Flashbang are at least 30m.

In PvE the Sniper can easily hold their own against multiple foes, I was able to one shot some mobs or two-shot them at the most with Ambush followed by Overload Shot or Snipe, and with Kaliyo to back me up I had no problems with 4-5 mob groups.

I also ran through the Black Talon twice and neither time did I have any trouble with aggro, whether or not that will change at later levels I can't say as I only made it to level 15 since I spent the whole of Saturday in London with friends

PvP wise the damage continues to be INSANE, I don't know how PvP will work at launch but we were boosted to level 50 for PvP, retaining our gear and skills, at level 50 in level 15 gear my Ambush was hitting for 4k crits, with Snipe, Overload Shot and Explosive Probe hitting at least 1k crits, if the enemy ignores you they won't last long, but thankfully up close and personal the Sniper can still get away in one piece, at level 15 I had four abilities to help me escape, Escape (breaks CC), Leg Shot (immobilises), Flashbang (disorients? I can't remember the exact effect) and Debilitate (short range stun).

If the enemy knows what they're doing then you'll have a hard time (I went up against a Guardian and only got one shot off against him ) but otherwise it's fairly easy (in my experience) to Leg Shot > Explosive Probe > Ambush someone and you've already taken off a large chunk of their health before they're aware you even exist! If they charge, you Debilitate and run whilst hitting them with Overload Shot (if you're used to ranged classes you should know how that one works, if not: you strafe while running in such a way that you're angled towards the enemy enough to still fire) and if they're still coming after you, Flashbang, drop into cover and Ambush!

I was frequently topping damage and kills in PvP and sometimes even objective score (except in Huttball, hint: don't pass the ball to a sniper!)

All in all I was very impressed with the class, the IA story is awesome! (But is there a class that doesn't have an awesome story?) and as I said I will be playing one at launch!

I hope this has helped give you an insight into the Sniper, if you have any other questions or I wanted to know something specific please ask and I will do my best to help you, however as I said I only reached level 15 and I am by no means an expert but I will try!

Please note that my tactics should be taken with a grain of salt, I shall not be held responsible for loss of life or broken peripherals caused as a result of using said tactics.

Well it seems that the IA will be a class worth playing. Not sure if their will be many arround like some folk fear their wont be. But i know i will be rolling poss 2 IA's and i completely agree they are very fun to play. As my style of play as well is to try and be self supportive in crafting no doubt i will roll 2 so i can share the crafting between armstect and cybertec. I will be playing on a PvE at launch allready got with a few freinds to create our own guild. We did play on test on the Jedi Cons something like that server not sure if that will be the case at launch, but anyway you will know me if you see me as my name will have FOO in it so if i see you in game say hi and may the force be with us all and most certainly the FUN. The force shall free me. Stay safe all.

Well i hope this might sooth your mind. I have been watching a lot of Game play on You-Tube from what others have posted, and i have to say that the Imperial Agent Sniper is really a good class to play in PvP check this out, Imperial Agent: Sniper Marksmanship PVP - Voidstar in google. Although i do have say it doesnt matter what class one picks its how one plays it. Be in a good group with team work and everyone is happy be in a group with crap and little team work no mater how good you think you are your group and xp and fun will all Suck. Check the walkthroughs on Google they are really fun to watch.

Current polls show that, yes, however, at the same time those are only polls. It's pre-game speculation. Come release it's entirely likely most people will go with lightsaber wielders initially, and after the initial hub-bub of lightsaber swishing the other classes will be better presented as well.

Keep in mind that the Beta saw a small percentage of the total playerbase in-game. A lot of people will just pick up the game around Xmas, without having any test results or polls in mind. Most of those people don't look at forums either, they will just play.

I personally wouldn't read too much into anything just now.

I don't care for poll results to be honest, I'd say just play what you'll enjoy. On the profession front I'd definitely recommend armstech, scavenging and investigation for the IA so you can craft your own weapons (which includes vibroknives, these are only used for your close quarters abilities but they also boost your stats) and reverse engineering gives you the chance to learn better versions of those weapons and upgrades so you can keep your DPS as high as possible.

Of course if cybertech is your thing then go for it, I also like to keep myself reasonably self-sufficient and have planned out the crafting skills for each class with that in mind.

Making useless text posts isn't called posting. You need to make normal posts as everyone else. We have some rules, give them a quick read.

You can post, as you can probably see, you just can't add links yet until you have 10 posts.
